New Motels

I've just heard a couple of tunes by New Motels, a band out of Pennsylvania. It's got a pleasant folksy vibe to it that reminds me of Wilco and Beulah, two of my favorite groups. Check them out on Myspace and you won't be disappointed.

Bishop Allen

They're not really new, but Bishop Allen has stayed under the radar of most music fans. They've got some terrific tracks that showcase a bunch of different sounds, from the jaunty "Busted Heart" to the tender "Butterfly Nets". Apparently, they also have a track on EA Sports' MLB 2007. Give them a listen, and you won't be disappointed.

The Sword: New Heavy Metal at its best!

They have a Sabbath type sound of rocking metal! There lyric are bit bardic, singing praises & laments about sword fighters, gods, and pre-historic animals.

They're not really new, after getting a nice plug in the movie "Garden State", as well as appearing on the official soundtrack. Still, most people have never heard anything of theirs besides the featured song, "New Slang". To be sure, "New Slang" is a perfect piece of music, but the rest of The Shins' catalogue is more than worth a listen. Here are my top 10 favorites Shins songs, in order of excellence:

I went to make sure that the kids of today weren't illegaly downloading some MP3s for the HOT new band NFD that everyones whos anyone in Europe is talking about, and I couldn't find any! Does this mean the youth of America are not tuning in to this cool new vibe or are they finaly respecting the intellectual properties of others?
