Snoop's Blue Carpet Treatment Keepin' it Gangsta

It ain’t nothin’ but a G-Thang baby. Snoop Dogg has taken it back to the streets with the release of “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment,” yesterday. He’s going back to his roots for real, even bringing back Dr. Dre for some of that old time flair. With Dre producing three tracks on the album and even spitting a verse on one of the songs, it’s sure to please those old school Dogg fans.

Snoop, back from a five-year hiatus, released the album with a cover colored blue, representative of his Crips affiliation. It’s a throwback to the days of “Gin and Juice.” Today, it’d be more like “Collapsible Baton and drug charges.”

Yale/Harvard Streaker Renews Faith in Nude Nerds

This weekend's Yale/Harvard football matchup left onlookers with the thrill of their day, a good old-fashioned streaking.

Tradition has a way of repeating itself, and this year was no exception. People at the ol' Ivy's like to get naked. It must be a release from all the studying and cocaine. Or maybe it's because of the coke. Who knows.

I mean most college kids get naked regularly, just with fewer people in the immediate vicinity. Not at the Yale/Harvard game, however. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMI3-bI0WJo. Thank god for YouTube.

Reportedly an MIT student, this guy took the advice of Frank Ricard in "Old School" and started his own "We're going streaking!" Just as in the movie, he ran naked alone, which makes it so much stranger.

Who Has The Who Been to You?

Even though they’ve lost most of their members to some sort of drug-related death, and the survivors are over 60, the long and short of it is that The Who still rocks. They've been called the greatest rock band of all time and also the most influential. While “greatest” may be debatable and also short-lived as soon as the next “greatest” band is born, most influential, they win.

The Who has a list of firsts that would fill a Guinness Book of World Records. In fact, one of their most rockin’ is their Guiness World record for loudest concert ever. They received the award for their 1976 performance at Charlton Athletic Football Ground, holding the honor for over a decade.

Shakira Statuesque in Hometown

Shakira has now been immortalized in iron…literally. Just like legend Sammy Sosa became an icon in the center of his hometown in the Dominican Republic, Latina pop-star Shakira shined in Barranquilla, Columbia yesterday, with the unveiling of a 15-foot, six-ton iron statue in her honor.

She returned the nod by performing a concert later that evening to the throes of fans that loved her so much they gave the little birdies this to perch on. The statue arrived by boat, donated by German artist Dieter Patt. After viewing the statue at a fundraiser in Germany, she said, “I want people to think that any girl can start working on her dreams and that they will come true."

Michael Jackson Proves He's Still Weird

Michael Jackson duped us again. The ever-elusive singer actually showed up to the World Music Awards and displayed his gaunt ghost-like grille, but as for the recreation of the Thriller scenes, we were left watching Chris Brown do a solo version of the song.

But Michael managed to make matters worse. Apparently a year in hiding didn’t do any good. He has yet to learn anything from the problems he has had such an integral part in creating for himself.

Think Michael Jackson. What comes to mind within the first couple seconds is usually “pedophile.” The majority of people accused of that would be actively working to distance themselves from that title, as it has been career suicide for virtually anyone remotely involved with such accuasations.

Public Enemy Takes it on Tour

Believe the hype. Public Enemy is back on tour. The legendary rap group is poised for the release of their new album “Beats and Places” on Nov. 28th.

So far only a few tour dates have been announced, but the list will surely grow. PE fans run deep. With the current resurgence of all things 80s, it’s the perfect time for a come back. And let’s face it, Public Enemy has always known what time it is.

Public Enemy’s name has been synonymous with origination and trend setting. Public Enemy was the first group to center their image on the rebellious political, social and cultural commentary of front man Chuck D. The D is for dangerous. They hugely influenced the hip hop scene, overseas and in the United States.

Josh Groban Tour to "Awake"n the Senses

For a guy that went to the prom stag, Josh Groban has come a long way. Even though he’s still single, that’s more a result of his hectic tour schedule than a lack of female admirers.

Tomorrow morning (Nov. 16) at 10 a.m. his newest release, “Awake,” will be the source of pre-sale codes for his 2007 tour. When you buy his CD at Target, a unique code is included and you can get tickets before they go on sale to the general public. It’s like a little window to Josh’s soul.

His latest release promises the same, as he was more hands-on this time around, writing and producing a number of songs on the 13-track album. It takes Josh to new places musically, with songs in Italian, Spanish and English. He collaborated with such legends as Herbie Hancock, Ladysmith Black Mambayo, Glen Ballard and even Dave Matthews.

Jay-Z Hangar Hungry

For those of you looking for a light at the end of that family-filled Thanksgiving tunnel, Jay-Z has stepped up to the plate. Except that it's a light at the beginning of the tunnel, but whatever.

The rapper has promised a 17 hour, seven-city tour on Nov. 18. Yes, that's right, Jay-Z will be playing in airport hangers in Atlanta, Philly, D.C., Chicago, L.A., Vegas and New York in less than one day.

“The Jay-Z Hangar Tour” is a prequel to the Nov. 21 release of the Def Jams Records president’s “Kingdom Come.” Not too hard to do when you have your own private jet.

Michael Jackson to Come Out of Hiding

Michael Jackson, the self-proclaimed King of Pop (even though young Justin Timberlake may be giving him a run for his money) will be performing at the World Music Awards next week.

Now, now, let’s be fair. He was acquitted of those nasty little child molestation charges last year, and this is his first performance since then. So in his defense, he has given us a break.

But no more. On November 15th, Jackson will recreate the graveyard sequence from his video for Thriller, harkening back to the days when it actually took makeup and special effects to make him look like a monster.

The Times They Are A-Failin'

Bob Dylan can lend his music to almost anyone and ensure an instant hit. It’s worked for decades for artists across the board. But when he tried to take his music to Broadway, well, it just flopped.

The Times They Are A-Changin' opened October 26th, but it’s already slated to close November 19th. Short run you say? Check out this preview on The View and you’ll wonder how it ever opened in the first place: http://www.ifilm.com/video/2782467.

The general idea is that Dylan’s lyrics somehow tie into the “story” (or lack thereof) of a low-rent traveling circus and the lead character ‘Coyote’ who dreams of a better life. He tries to decide to flee the company business or to remain. A better song to use may have been The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” And the word from audience members, he should go.
