The Cross Creek Blues Band has gone above and beyond, when it comes to unusual Memorial Day performances. A live performance and studio recording group, the band is made up of seasoned musical artists. "Sweet Pea is the bass player and she was a founding member of "Jump Street". Robby Baldridge used to be a drummer for Conway Twitty and Captain Gary plays harmonica. Florida's Blues Guitarman, Hal Hammer, Jr. plays guitar and keyboard. Hal and "Sweet Pea" both do vocals. The band is usually very well paid for their performances in Concert Halls, Music Festivals, and the usual music venues. But, for a really unusual venue, on Memorial Day, they loaded all their necessary musical equipment on a barge, outfitted with Palm fronds for a "Tiki-Hut-Style" roof and not much more. The band and barge were towed across Riviera Bay and anchored in "P" Channel, near a sandbar. Once anchored and tuned up, they played for a gathering crowd of nearly 140 boats and an estimated 400 people. This was the 2nd Annual Memorial Day Sandbar Concert given by the band. Oh, and did we mention . . . The performed this floating concert free of charge!
