Save some room for Meat Loaf after all that Halloween candy.
Meatloaf’s third installment in the “Bat Out of Hell” trilogy, aptly titled, (you guessed it) “Bat Out of Hell III,” hits the shelves tomorrow.
The accompanying tour, the Loaf says, will mark the end of Meat Loaf on the road. But that’s de ja vu for many that heard him say that at the end of his 2003 tour. I’ll bet it’s a ticket-selling tactic. “Hey everybody! Come see me in concert! It’s your last chance!” Then, very quietly years later, “Sike.”
Apparently Meat Loaf can cry wolf as many times as he likes. The man is clearly a legend. Never since George Foreman could someone use the same title three times and get away with it.
Seven songs on the album were written by co-collaborator Jim Steinman, including Steinman’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” a hit that helped put Celine Dion where she is today: Vegas.
You think Celine scares Meat Loaf? Hah! Dion’s past success with the tune doesn’t sway a hard-core rocker like Meat Loaf. He says her version doesn’t even exist to him, and he has no trouble ignoring it. I doubt he's alone in that sentiment.
In a recent Live Daily article, Meat Loaf was quoted as saying, “…It had nothing to do with her, it just had to do with the fact that I felt that song was mine so I basically have ignored it,” he said. “And the only reason I would even talk about it is because other people bring it up. To me, it doesn't exist. The only thing that exists is this duet. I know that sounds like a crazy person speaking and that's probably true.”
I saw Meat Loaf at Mohegan Sun’s Uncasville Arena in 2005, which he'll return to Nov. 12. I have never seen a crazier bunch of Baby Boomers get that worked up over pyro-technics, smoke, capes and leather in my life. The entire floor was out of their seats fist-pumping. It was incredible.
The show was raw energy, coupled with a bit of strange word play between Meat Loaf and his wife, who has been touring with him for years. He throws slurs at her, demeans her and puts her down, but she gives it right back. Whatever gets you through the night. Worth seeing, since it’s your last chance!
