George Michael Tour Heads to US

With the resurgence of all things 80s, George Michael is returning to the US, according to People Magazine. His current tour “25 Live” is the English version of what is heading to the states this Spring, commemorating George’s 25 years in the biz.

"25 Live" started Sept. 23 in Barcelona, and its sold out success prompted the US leg. It’s been 15 years since he’s hopped the pond to perform, so this Spring marks quite the exciting event for fans who have been waiting a good part of their adult lives to see him.

I admit it. I regularly listen to George Michael. Wham! has “Made it Big” on many of my playlists, and I commonly have a George Michael CD in my car, when I know I’ll be driving solo. I love him, albeit somewhat secretly. “Faith” was my first tape. I listened to it repeatedly for months. And as a 12-year-old Mormon girl, such a sex-charged album couldn’t have had a better title to throw off censor-prone parents.

His pop-soul sound has driven his chart success, but the remainder of his music brushes across so many diverse genres; to truly understand George Michael, you’d have to hear how jazzy and soulful he can be. Or see how his lyrics can cut right to the point, sharing years of wisdom in one line.

He’s been revived recently in the media for his arrest in February for suspicion of drug possession in London, and for hitting parked cars more than once recently. His namesake was also used in the television series “Arrested Development.”

And now he’s coming back. A new release is planned entitled “25” to accompany the tour, which has been rocking London since September. But this time the news of the 43-year-old half-Greek Cypriot’s coverage is much more flattering. [Cypriots are from the Republic of Cyprus, in case you were wondering; not to be confused with Cypress.]

From his days with Wham! and best friend Andrew Ridgeley to being the first Western pop act to tour China to his recent success in Europe, the world is ready for George Michael once again. I for one, cannot wait to get tickets.
