Van Halen just hasn’t been the same without David Lee Roth. And now Eddie Van Halen is going to do something about it. He’s invited the former vocalist to head out to tour for the summer of 2007.
In a recent Guitar World interview Van Halen said, “I'm telling Dave. ‘Dude get your ass up here and sing, b*tch! Come On!’” he said. "As it stands right now, the ball is in Dave's court. Whether he wants to rise to the occasion is entirely up to him, but we're ready to go.”
Other interesting news is that Eddie’s 15-year-old son will be accompanying Van Halen on their upcoming tour -- on bass. Eddie did a September Howard Stern interview, during which he claimed his son had only been playing bass for three months but that he was blowing them away. He also said that his son brings a “youthfulness to the band.”
An entry from rock photographer Ross Halfin’s diary from a shoot he did with the band on Dec. 13th describes what he’s heard from Wolfgang:
“Edward played a couple of cds which I thought were from 1978 (it was from two days ago) of Van Halen rehearsing with Wolfgang Van Halen on bass. It was jaw-droppingly amazing. They played On Fire, I'm The One, Atomic Punk.
“I'm not listing the rest, but I will tell you the band sounded untouchable. On Jamie's Crying they did a long bass-lead jam on the intro - the band rocked. I don't like that word (too American) but the band rock - really rock.
“It was as exciting as the first time I saw them. They will come back and destroy the world. One of the tightest, freshest sounding groups ever. I want to go and play the first album as soon as I get home. Had a blast listening to them, it made me remember why I liked music in the first place. Having Edward's son on bass has rejuvenated them.”
The only tracks released thus far have been for Ninn Worx pictures adult film “Sacred Sin” in July. And as far as the David Lee Roth reunion, the two have had personal problems for years, as Van Halen has with Sammy Hagar. Perhaps working with family is the best solution to his admitted “Lead Singer Disease.”
That’s not the only disease Van Halen has claimed to have had. During his Howard Stern interview, Eddie stated that he thinks he got cancer from holding a metal pick in his mouth all day inside the music studio among the electromagnetic radiation. He still smokes though, since that’s not what it was from.
But the way he got rid of the cancer is perhaps even more
interesting. Eddie claims that he used an illegal method from some lab in New York. They removed a third of his tongue and did experiments, and then performed a technique on him.
The guy is so bad-a$$ that he even uses illegal cancer treatments -- that work. Amazing.
