However, inspirational skipper Steven Gerrard pulls one back, Vladimir Smicer brings them within one, and Xabi Alonso equalises after seeing his spot kick saved by Dida. It's still tied after extra time, with Gerrard's sheer will power seeing Liverpool through, and they complete the impossible comeback when Jerzey Dudek saves from Pirlo and Shevchenko on penalties. Breathless stuff.
