Losing your wife and male lover in the same day doesn’t sound like an ideal situation, but it makes for a great Broadway play.
The 1972 Broadway revival of “Butley” opens tomorrow starring Nathan Lane. Lane’s usually light roles are supplanted by the serious literary professor he plays this time. It’s a dark comedy, a day in the life set in the disaster of an office in what fast becomes a disaster of a life for Lane’s character of Butley.
Opening in Broadway’s Booth Theater, “Butley” will no doubt be a success for Lane as his other recent works have been, such as “The Producers” and “The Odd Couple.”
